Index No. A5924 Rare Masonic Regulator Dial Verge
A very rare early 19th Century English verge with polychrome enamel regulator dial depicting Masonic symbols in silver pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars.  Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Rare white enamel regulator dial with subsidiaries for hours and seconds, Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals at the edge for the minutes.  Polychrome enamel Masonic emblems fill the space between the chapters, pierced gold hands.  Matching plain silver pair cases, silver oval pendant and bow.  Lateral steel stop lever, maker's mark "WL".
Anonymous English
ConditionHallmarked London 1805
CaseExcellent.
DialExcellent apart from a small surface chip at the centre. Diameter 58 mm
MovementExcellent.
A very rare watch in fine condition.  Use of a regulator style dial is very uncommon, as are (genuine) Masonic dials of the period.  This is the  only example we can find of the two features combined.  It is a particularly good example incorporating the Sun and Moon, entrance to the Temple of Solomon, dividers, set square, hammer as well as two of the rarer symbols, the beehive and Noah's Ark.  The watch is unsigned and more unusually un-numbered.  However it has a plain gilt escutcheon fixed to the plate only by two screws which was probably intended to be engraved with the owners name when sold.
