Index No. A5931 Half Quarter Repeating Gold Repousse Verge
A fine mid 18th Century half quarter repeating verge with gold champleve dial in gold repousse pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt movement with square baluster pillars.  Pierced and engraved silver cock, pierced and engraved foot and gilt plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Unusual applied silver pierced decoration to the fusee stop arm.  Plain three arm gilt balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Push pendant half quarter repeating on a bell in the back of the case. Signed gold champleve dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands.  Fine gold pair cases, probably 22 carat.  Gold inner case finely pierced and engraved depicting animals and a mask,  gold push  pendant and stirrup bow.  The outer of chased and engraved repousse work pierced at the edges depicting Telemachus and Calypso.  Signed at the base of the scene "Dupont - fecit", the scene within a rococo border.

A fine watch in excellent overall condition.  Baillie lists a Swiss maker, Jean Francois Poncet, born 1714 who worked in Warsaw and Dresden.  Some details of this watch are reminiscent of Swiss work of the period and it is possible that this may be by the same maker.
