A very rare form of escapement.  Used by Breguet in watch number 942 with jewelled cylinders.  See The Art of Breguet by George Daniels for an illustration of the escapement with five toothed wheel.  In a standard verge dispensing with a fusee would cause a wide variation in rate.  However as there is no recoil in this form of the escapement use of a resting barrel would have little effect.  A small marine chronometer using this escapement with steel cylinders by Charles Oudin was sold in "The Longitude at the Eve of the Third Millennium".
