Index No. A5732 Unusual Silver Duplex
A rare mid 19th Century duplex signed for a Gibraltar maker with jewelled impulse in a silver open face case.  Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement with dust cover.  Harrison's maintaining power. Plain cock with diamond endstone, polished steel regulator with silver sector index on the plate.  Unusual compensation balance with auxiliary compensation, blue steel spiral hairspring.  Duplex escapement with an impulse jewel mounted in a roller similar to a chronometer, steel escape wheel, pivots with endstones. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Plain silver open face case with gold hinges.
SignedM Abudarham    Gibaraltar London 9006
ConditionCirca 1850
CaseExcellent.
DialExcellent. Diameter 54 mm
MovementExcellent. Depth 12.5 mm
An interesting watch with a number of unusual features.  The movement appears to have originated in London being signed on the main plate.  The makers name is engraved on the barrel bridge and fired in the enamel dial.  The case is of good quality and of unusual flat backed shape but bears no marks at all - indicating it was made in Gibraltar.  Use of an impulse jewel in a duplex is very rare.
