Unusual enamel dial with a scene en grisaille depicting an artist's pallet, books, soldier's shield and a vase, around the top in gilt lettering "Savoir s'occuper cest savoir jouir" (To know how to keep busy is to know how to rejoice). Small white subsidiary dial for time with Arabic numerals, gilt hands. Contemporary gold consular case with applied three colour gold decoration.
