Index No. A5733 Unusual Silver Duplex
A mid 19th Century Swiss duplex in an open face case.  Keywind gilt bar movement with richly engraved single symmetrical bridge, balance cock and suspended going barrel.  Polished steel regulator and stopwork, blue steel screws.  Polished steel three arm balance with blue steel affixes, spiral hairspring.  Steel duplex escape wheel.  White enamel dial unusually with both continuous subsidiary and centre seconds,  Roman numerals, decorative blue steel hands.  Silver engine turned open face case with ribbed middle and gilt bezels, gilt metal cuvette inscribed "Duplex"

The movement similar in design to those made for the Chinese market was probably for export as the balance has the blue steel affixes thought to ward off dragons.
