| An early 18th Century English verge in fine gold repousse pair cases. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with square baluster pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, pierced and engraved foot. Plain three arm gilt balance, silver regulator disc. Later white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, pierced gilt hands. Plain 22 carat inner case, maker's mark "RH" in a rectangle and number corresponding to that on the movement. Fine 22 carat outer decorated with chased and engraved repousse work depicting a couple in a garden, four well modelled busts at the edge, seven joint hinge. | ||

| A good example of an early 18th Century decorative English watch. The watchmaker, Robert Higgs, was apprenticed in 1699 and free of the clockmakers company 1714 - 1731. He registered his mark with the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths on 25 October 1721 giving his address as Addell Street, Aldermanberry. |
