| An unusually small mid 17th Century pre-balance spring English verge in a silver gilt case. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with four turned baluster pillars. Fusee and gut with ratchet and spring barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved cock secured by a screw. Small two arm balance without spring. Small silver champleve dial marked in quarter hour divisions, Roman numerals, engraved gilt edge, single blue steel hand. Small silver gilt case deeply chased and engraved with a representation of a mythical animal amongst profuse foliage. Split chased and engraved bezel, ring bow and swivel pendant. | ||

| Unusually small for a watch of the period. In common with most watches from the mid 17th Century some of the train has been replaced but this example does not appear to have suffered conversion to balance spring. Jeremie Gregory - London, free of the Clockmakers Company 1652 and master 1665, died 1685 - a maker of repute - watches in a number of museums. |
