Index No. A5347 French Repeating Verge by Leroy
A mid 18th Century French quarter repeating verge by Julien LeRoy in a silver consular case. Full plate gilt movement, fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Large geometrically pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Push pendant dumb quarter repeating on two blocks in the case. Engraved raised gilt border to the dial which is also signed close to the pendant. Fine signed white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, pierced gold hands. Purpose made plain silver consular case.

Julien LeRoy was one of the most eminent makers in France in the first half of the 18th Century. Born 1686 he was made clockmaker to the King in 1739 and died in 1759. His son, Pierre, followed him and developed many innovations including a detent chronometer escapement. This is an affordable example of his fine work.
