| A late 18th Century English verge in a decorative gold an polychrome enamel case. Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Later white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, pierced gold hands. Two colour gold consular case, an oval cartouche on the back finely painted in polychrome enamel with a classically dressed woman holding a dagger, maker's mark "IW". | ||

| Decorative watches made in England of this type are uncommon, most being French or Swiss. James Upjohn, Senior & Junior - 12 Red Lion Street 1781-93. The casemaker was probably John Wright who moved to Red Lion Street in 1772 and is listed at 43 Red Lion Street in 1799. |
