| Index No. A4710 | 19th CENTURY SWISS PATENT WINDING CYLINDER |
A 19th Century Swiss cylinder with a patent winding mechanism in a silver open face case. Keyless gilt bar movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. White enamel dial with a thin red line above the subsidiary seconds and inside the Roman numerals, gilt hands. Silver open face case with large vacant shield shaped cartouche on the back, signed silver cuvette, makers mark "EL" which is repeated on the movement. The silver pendant (also marked "EL Brevet") and bow of the watch rotates and replaces the function of the winding crown.
Although given a patent (Brevet) for the winding system it is in essence only using the pendant as a winding crown. It is however an interesting variation in horological history.
