Index No. A4730 RARE WEDGEWOOD SET WATCH and CHATELAINE

A rare verge watch and chatelaine set with Wedgewood plaques. Small full plate gilt fusee movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Wound through the white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, gilt hands. Gold case, the front cover opened by depressing a button in the pendant to reveal the dial. Decoratively chased and engraved on both sides the back is set with a blue and white circular Wedgewood plaque depicting two figures. Matching gold chatelaine the two rectangular chased and engraved links also set with circular Wedgewood plaques. The suite is completed by a key decorated on both sides with rectangular Wedgewood plaques and an urn shaped seal of Wedgewood. Contained in a fitted velvet lined morocco covered case decorated with gilt initials and a Paris retailer's signature inside.

A very rare piece. Wedgwood's factory was famous for this form of Jasperware pottery in the late 18th Century but few small pieces were made. Its use in decorating a watch is most unusual.
