Index No. A4708 UNUSUAL FREESPRUNG GOLD HALF HUNTER

An unusual mid 19th Century English freesprung lever in a half hunter case. Gilt three quarter plate keywind movement with fusee and chain. Harrison's maintaining power. Engraved cock with diamond endstone, compensation balance with freesprung blue steel overcoil hairspring. English table roller lever escapement, screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Unusual engine turned 18 carat half hunter case. The front lid with blue enamel chapter ring has the twelve at the pendant as in an open face watch and the dial has no protective glass, maker's mark "FM" in a rectangle. It is made in the same manner as an open face case with the glass replaced by the lid. Wound and set through the gold cuvette which bears a dedication dated 1845. On the inside of the back lid, engraved in a spiral the explanation "This watch replaces one which was stolen while being repaired and whereupon was engraved the annexed inscription -- MDCCCLX"
