Pierced and engraved oval cock secured by a screw. Plain two arm steel balance without hairspring. Gilt chapter ring with Turkish numerals over a similar decorative pierced and engraved silver mask, fine single blue steel hand with long tail. Oval silvered case with an inner removable shell. The case decoratively chased and engraved in typical Turkish style.
Anonymous English
ConditionCirca 1650
CaseVery good.
DialExcellent. Dimensions 67x57x33mm
MovementExcellent but one pillar lacking.
A rare chance to purchase a pre balance spring watch. The movement undoubtedly dating from the middle of the seventeenth century, in remarkably original and fine condition. However the case may not be original, although it could be, having been later decorated in the late 17th Century in Turkey. Alternatively it may be entirely manufactured in Turkey for the movement.
