Index No. A4327 GOLD & ENAMEL WATCH in the form of a MANDOLIN

An early 19th Century Austrian verge in a gold and enamel case in the form of a mandolin. Full plate gilt fusee movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Winding through the white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Fine detailed gold and enamel case set with split pearls in the form of a mandolin. The front of the mandolin in translucent red enamel over an engine turned ground, the edge set with split pearls, six gold wire strings. The balance is visible through the glazed "sound" hole. The reverse of the mandolin decorated in fully restored dark blue enamel and a sheet music motif.

A good example of this form of watch. The case is more typical of high quality Swiss work and may have been imported into Austria.
