| Index No. A4506 | SILVER ENGLISH DOCTOR'S DIAL LEVER by FRENCH |
An unusual English lever with doctor's dial in silver pair cases. Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement, Harrison's maintaining power. Engraved sector shaped cock with large diamond endstone, polished steel regulator. Unusual uncut bimetallic balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. English table roller lever escapement, the lever with a proportionally long arm, screwed in jewelling. Off white enamel dial with subsidiaries for time and seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand, gilt hands. Fitted in later silver pair cases.
An unusual movement which appears to be somewhat experimental in nature. The balance is well made with delicate tapering blue steel arms and a deep bi-metallic rim, but is uncut and carries no weights. The lever acts on a small escape wheel but is of unusual proportions with a large distance between its pivot and that of the balance.
