A mid 18^th Century English quarter repeater in pierced and engraved gold repousse pair cases. Full plate fire gilt movement with, signed and numbered gilt dust cover, round pillars. Pierced and engraved masked cock, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Converted to cylinder escapement, probably from verge. Push pendant quarter repeating on a bell in the case. White enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, gold hands. Fine 22 carat gold pair cases. The inner finely pierced and engraved with floral motifs and a mask, gold push pendant and decorative stirrup bow. Substantial 22 carat outer case, a classical scene in chased and engraved repousse work on the back within a rococo frame. The edges of the back and bezel pierced and engraved to allow the sound of the bell to be heard clearly.
