An early 19^th Century English verge with calendar in massive silver pair cases. Full plate fusee movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved round cock, gilt regulator on top plate below the plain three arm steel balance. White enamel dial with central indicator for the date within a gilt border, Arabic numerals, gilt hands. Massive matching silver pair cases weighing over 8 ounces, silver oval pendant and bow, maker's mark "WR" in an oval.

It is difficult to appreciate the weight of this watch without holding it in your hand. The weight of normal pair cases of the period is only about a quarter of this one. No doubt there was a reason for the owner wanting his watch to be so heavy!
