Index No. A4048 EARLY SILVER ALARM BY QUARE

A late 17th Century single handed English verge with alarm by Daniel Quare in silver pair cases. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved winged cock with pierced and engraved foot. Plain steel balance, silver regulator disc. Engraved resting barrel for the alarm, steel double headed hammer driven by a steel crown wheel and striking a bell in the case. Signed silver champleve dial with Roman numerals. The time indicated by a small blue steel hand carried on the silver alarm disc with Arabic numerals. Short blue steel hand to set the alarm time. Silver pair cases, the inner pierced and profusely engraved. Contemporary silver repousse outer decorated with four chased and engraved busts.
