Index No. A3935 RARE MINUTE REPEATING AUTOMATON

A very rare late 19th Century Swiss minute repeating automaton of a sailing ship in a silver and gilt open face case. Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Slide minute repeating on two polished steel gongs. Unusual painted dial, its face being taken up entirely with a three masted sailing vessel with oars. When the repeat mechanism is activated the oars move churning the sea beneath them and seagulls in the sky beat their wings. Engraved silver open face case, chased and engraved red gilt bezels.
