| Index No. A3735 | QUARTER STRIKING SWISS CLOCKWATCH |
A late 19th Century Swiss lever watch with quarter strike and repeat in a gilt metal full hunter
case. Keyless gilt bar
movement with single large going barrel for both trains. Plain cock with polished steel
regulator. Compensation
balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Quarter striking in
passing and repeat on
demand on two polished steel gongs. White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman
numerals, gilt hands.
Substantial engine turned gilt metal full hunter case with a button on the band to release the
striking at will and a
lateral lever for strike / silent.
Anonymous _ _______ Swiss
Circa 1880
Diameter 57 mm
Condition
Case _ _______ Excellent.
Dial _ _______ Very good, hairline crack.
Movement _ _ Excellent.
An interesting design in which only one barrel is used to power both the striking and
going trains. No doubt if the striking was
set to silent the watch would run for about two days.
