Index No. A4702 FINE EARLY 18th CENTURY ENGLISH silver pair cased VERGE

A fine early 18th Century English verge with silver champleve dial in silver pair cases. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Silvered pierced and engraved winged cock with pierced and engraved foot, turned baluster blue steel screw. Plain three arm gilt balance, silver regulator disc on a pierced and engraved gilt plate. Signed silver champleve dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, engraved gilt border, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Plain matching silver pair cases, silver pendant and ring bow, split bezel. Outer case with seven joint square hinge, maker's mark "ID" below a crown.

Probably William Franklin, London - apprenticed 1697, free of the Clockmakers Company 1712-1725.
