Converted from suspended ruby cylinder to polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel.  Push pendant quarter repeating on a single polished steel gong.  Engine turned silver dial, engraved Roman numerals.
Anonymous  French
Circa 1815
Excellent, working.   Lacking hands.
Diameter 49 mm
A rare movement.  The design and finish of this movement suggest it has been made in Breguet's workshop.  The quarter repeat mechanism is to a design introduced by Breguet in 1810.  Using only a single hammer it is quite distinct from other repeaters of the period and matches exactly that of watches by Breguet made between 1810 and 1820.   See "The Art of Breguet" by George Daniels page 340 for an illustration of the repeat mechanism.
