Index No. M7003 Arnold Cylinder Movement with Prest's Winding
An early 19th Century cylinder movement by John Roger Arnold with Prest's patent winding mechanism.  Full plate gilt keyless movement, the going barrel under a bridge.  Prest's keyless patent winding under the dial with two blue steel ratchets and springs.  Plain cock with garnet endstone, long blue steel regulator with bimetallic compensation strip, plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  Steel cylinder, brass escape wheel, pivots with endstones.  Signed and numbered white enamel dial with Roman numerals, original gold hands, the minute with retaining screw. Complete with winding pinion from the case.

Thomas Prest was the foreman of Arnold's workshops.  He invented this mechanism for winding a watch without using a key in 1820.  See the Camerer Cuss Book of Antique Watches page 188 for a similar watch.
