| Index No. M4607 | EARLY 19th CENTURY ENGLISH FUSEE DUPLEX MOVEMENT |
An early 19th Century English full plate gilt keywind fusee duplex movement. Harrison's maintaining power. Plain cock with diamond endstone, polished steel regulator, silver sector index on the top plate. Chronometer type compensation balance with two wedge shaped weights and timing screws, blue steel spiral hairspring. Duplex escapement with locking jewel, brass escape wheel, pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals.
This is somewhat of a mystery. The movement appears to have undergone some minor alterations, the silver sector index is probably a later "improvement". The number of the movement does not fit with any of the known series and the style of the dial, which has the name and numbered fired into it, is more in keeping with that of 1830. One possible explanation is that John Roger Arnold took the watch in part exchange and decided that it was worthy of resale under his own name. To this end he updated the index, replaced the barrel bridge and had a new dial made; it may even have had a new case. John and John Roger Arnold were known to have resold their own work again after refurbishment.
