| Index No. M3906 | RARE ENGLISH QUARTER REPEATING MOVEMENT |
A very rare lae 18th Century English verge with quarter repeating carrillion on bells by
Cabrier. Unusually
constructed on two levels, the going train with fusee and chain in the upper and repeating
work and bells in the
other. Seven decoratively turned baluster pillars. Pierced and engraved winged cock, pierced
and engraved foot and
plate for the silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.
In the larger of the two
sections is a nest of three bells and hammers with a pin barrel, a further hammer for an
external bell, the repeating
train. The external bell (which would have been in the watch case) was used to strike the
hours and was also used as
part of the carillion at the quarters. Decorative white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic
numerals.
Signed _ _______ Cabrier London
Circa 1750
Diameter 41.5 mm - Depth 21 mm
Condition _ _______ Excellent but requires cleaning. Lacking the limiting lever for
the quarter repeat mechanism.
A very rare and unusual piece by a famous London maker.
