| Index No. M3801 | LARGE PRE-BALANCE SPRING ENGLISH VERGE MOVEMENT |
A large rare 17th Century English verge movement. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with
turned baluster pillars.
Fusee and chain, the setup originally a large ratchet wheel with click and spring on the plate
(now lacking)
Unusually small pierced and engraved bridge cock, small plain steel balance without spring.
Four wheel train, the
cannon pinion slightly offset. Signs of complex dial indications.
Signed _ _______ Elie Bernard Southamton Circa 1660
Diameter 57 mm - Depth 21 mm
Condition _ _______ Very good, working dial down. Lacking dial, dial plate,
motion work and mainspring setup.
An unusual and impressive movement which would have made a very large watch. It is
possible it was intended for use as a
table clock. The use of a small bridge cock is very rare in English work.
