Morris Tobias patented a timepiece 1812 with a dial divided into thirty minute revolutions to replace the old sand glass which had been used to time the sounding of bells on board ship.  This example is similar to those few examples known in respect to the case and movement.  However it has a standard dial and may have been specially- commissioned for some other use See NAWCC bulletin, April 1996 for an article about these clocks by Micheal Ediden.
