Index No. A7745 Marine Chronometer by Vacheron and Constantin
An early 20th Century two day marine chronometer in a dark mahogany box with brass corners.  Full plate keywind fusee movement, four turned pillars secured by polished steel screws.  Barrel bridge marked "V.C" and numbered, Harrison's maintaining power. Plain cock with diamond endstone, two arm compensation balance with four circular weights and two timing screws. Freesprung white metal helical hairspring.  Earnshaw spring detent escapement, escape pivots with endstones.  Brass ratchet wheel mounted on the seconds arbor, probably for use if the instrument were converted to a master chronometer.  The movement secured to the gilt dial plate by three polished steel screws.  Engraved signed and numbered silvered brass dial with subsidiaries for seconds and power reserve indication, Roman numerals, blue steel hands.  Turned brass bowl,  screw brass bezel with flat glass, lacking rotating shutter to the winding hole.  Brass gimbals and locking mechanism, brass ratchet key.  Two tier dark mahogany box, hinged brass handles and corners.
